ABOUT SYBIL J. NARCISSE
Sybil Joyce Narcisse was born on July 17, 1934, in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. An intelligent and avid learner, Sybil loved math and enjoyed keeping her mind active. She attended Calabas Elementary School, Buxton High School and Tutorial College where she completed her Senior Cambridge Exam. At the age of 13 years old, she accepted the Lord Jesus as her personal Savior and found the greatest joy in serving the Lord and others.
As a creative and energetic young girl, her mother taught her how to sew, and it was at that time she developed an interest and love for sewing and for the craft. Realizing a career as a seamstress, she joined the Dorcas Group - a group of older, more experienced women who met monthly to sew and to sell their work as fundraisers for her church.
She was active in the church...worked in the Sunday School, Youth Group, and served as the Missionary President. Throughout her life, she found great joy in serving the Lord. She loved to sing on the choir, sing solos, read poems, served as the secretary of her church and stayed active with the young people of the church. She was ordained a Deaconess, served as a pastor’s aide, worked in the care ministry, women’s ministry, communion, choir and sewed for the church.
She believed the greatest joy in life was in serving God and giving to others. She gave unconditionally and she continued to serve God’s people faithfully throughout her years at the Information Center, Book Store and on the Steering Committee for the JOY Ministry. She continued to use her gifts and talents in the House of the Lord in sewing the table covers, outfits for the Dance ministry and the beautiful blue velvet covers that adorned the offering baskets.
A focused and determine woman of God, she understood the value and importance of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. At the age of 75, she served in Missions and went on several Mission Trips to Jamaica and the Dominican Republic. With a genuine love for God and a great compassion for God’s people, Mom Narcisse served as a LIFE Group hostess for more than 30 years. This she did until 2013, at the age of 80, when she had to turn it over due to illness.
Mom Narcisse, a beautiful and gracious woman of God who loved others, not only in words; but also, in deeds. Giving to the service of God, her life, talents, and treasures. Mom Narcisse truly believed that giving is the key to life’s riches and true happiness and that she exemplified until God called her home on December 31, 2020.
